Roger F. Harbin
Executive Vice President
Roger Harbin is executive vice president of Symetra Financial Corp. In this role he serves as the company's primary executive liaison with industry trade organizations and community groups.
Harbin first joined Symetra Financial in 1977, working in the actuarial department. He founded the company’s Structured Settlement department and under his leadership, the product line was expanded to include deferred annuities sold to bank customers. Harbin has served as senior vice president of the Annuities division and executive vice president of life company operations. He chaired the board of trustees of the company’s mutual funds operations prior to its sale in late 2004. Harbin has also served as Symetra’s chief risk officer and chief operating officer, leading the company’s product line operations.
Harbin is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst. He serves on the boards of a number of industry organizations, including the Idaho Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association, the Montana Life and Health Guaranty Association, the Virginia Life, Accident and Sickness Insurance Guaranty Association and the Washington Life and Disability Insurance Guaranty Association. For nine years he served on the board of the National Organization of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations, and was its chair in 2001-2002.
He is active in community affairs, and is a board member of the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America and a past board member of both the Bellevue and Redmond Chambers of Commerce, and chaired the Redmond Chamber in 1997. In 2001 Harbin was honored by the Seattle Times for his work on transportation issues in the Puget Sound region, including leading the group called Move on 405 which advocated for mobility improvements in the region.
Harbin has a Master of Arts degree from the University of Montana.
