Joe comes to us from Cigna/New York Life with eight years of industry experience. After five years working in IT with a focus on innovation and business strategy, Joe got the sales bug and quickly became a top performing rep in the Pittsburgh market. Through his career he’s been able to travel the globe, living in Scotland for a year and traveling to Greece, Italy and Spain. He now lives in Miami where he’ll be working with Symetra’s broker partners in South Florida.

Joe says, “I believe in Symetra’s mission and couldn’t be more excited about growing with the company. The culture and people were what drew me in as everyone I interacted with during the interview process was telling of that. I couldn't be more eager to get started!”

Get to know Joe:

What's the most important quality in an insurer?

Dependability—we need to be there when clients need us the most.

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in the industry in your career?

The proliferation of paid leave programs and the added complexity for employers to comply with the varying states. The laws are constantly changing, and it can be super overwhelming for businesses to manage. Symetra’s ability to manage these programs can take a lot of pressure and risk off a client’s plate, giving them more peace of mind.

Are you a fan of any sports teams?

I am a die-hard Philadelphia sports fan! I love the Sixers, Eagles, Flyers, and Phillies. I was also the mascot at Temple University, Hooter the Owl, so I am a big supporter of TU.

What do you like most about working in Benefits?

Bringing smiles to clients’ and brokers’ faces every day. I always want my partners to be happy to hear from me because they know I am adding value to their life or the life of their clients.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I’ve performed stand-up comedy all around the Northeast. Prior to the pandemic, I had my first sold-out show at the Arcade Theater in downtown Pittsburgh.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in your career?

A little twist on a childhood idol’s quote (by Allen Iverson), “Work hard and good things will happen”— Be passionate, work smart and great things will happen.
