Benefits enrollment and other HR functions are important to any business and the employees who work for them. But they can also be complicated, time-consuming and stress-inducing for everyone involved. What technology solutions are available?

While many employers may be small or don’t have the budget to implement full-scale, comprehensive HR platforms for their workplaces, they may still be able to add more specialized systems to assist with benefits enrollment and other tasks that can be a challenge for HR teams and the employees they support. Here’s a high-level view of some of the options:

  • Human capital management (HCM): Typically reserved for the largest of employers, these comprehensive systems typically manage all HR functions and offer strategic support across the entire employee lifecycle.
  • Human resources information systems (HRIS): Assist with all basic HR functions such as payroll, benefits enrollment and administration, recruitment and more, but lack the complex employee-management functionality of an HCM.
  • Benefits administration (BenAdmin): Allow digital enrollment for employees and help employers facilitate the usage of benefits, but lack other HR functions such as payroll and recruiting.
  • Decision-support technology: Help educate employees on benefit options and guide them in making decisions that fit their needs.

Clearly, these systems aren’t right for every employer. But most companies, regardless of size, can benefit from benefits enrollment and administration systems that can help their HR departments and employees during open enrollment, new-hire onboarding, qualifying life events or whenever benefits need to be used.
